A Day of Heritage, Unity, and Community Spirit
On 24 August 2025, the Bangladesh Welfare Society Watford (BWSW) hosted a spectacular traditional Mezban festival at the Watford Holywell Community Centre, bringing together Bangladeshis from across the Three Counties. The event turned into a vibrant cultural gathering, celebrating Bangladeshi heritage, food, and unity in the heart of Watford.

The Inauguration
The celebration began with a melodious Qur’an recitation by the organization’s Office Secretary, Mohammed Tarikul Islam.
The program was skillfully hosted by Organizational Secretary Muhammad Reza Rumel and officially inaugurated by President and Trustee Chair Shahedul Alam, who delivered an inspiring welcome speech.
In his address, Mr. Alam reflected on the society’s four years of tireless work and the challenges faced, while reaffirming BWSW’s commitment to working with the council for community and diversity development. He extended heartfelt gratitude to all members, trustees, executives, and volunteers for their dedication and contributions.
Honoring the Team
During the program, the executive team and activists were introduced on stage, including:
- Muhammad Shafiqul Islam – Trustee & Vice President
- Mohammed Tarikul Islam – Office Secretary
- Shahidul Islam – Executive Member
- Khaled Manzur Chowdhury – General Secretary
- Muhammad Harun – Executive Member
Their collective efforts and leadership have played a key role in the society’s growth and impact within the community.

The Mezban was graced by several distinguished guests, including:
- Peter Taylor, Mayor of Watford Council
- Mr. Akhtar-ul-Alam, Councillor of Newham & President of the Greater Chittagong Association (GCA)
Their presence highlighted the importance of cultural diversity and the strong community ties between the Bangladeshi diaspora and local councils.

The Traditional Feast
No Mezban is complete without its signature dishes, and this event was no exception. Guests enjoyed a variety of authentic Bangladeshi delicacies, including:
- Spiced Mezban Beef
- Paya (slow-cooked trotters)
- Chickpeas with Meat
- Chicken Curry
- Reshmi Jilapi (silky fried sweets)
- Betel Leaf with Areca Nut (Paan-Supari)
- Traditional Tea
The rich flavors and festive atmosphere created a true sense of home away from home for the community.

A Festival of Togetherness
The hall was filled with vibrant energy, turning the event into a joyful reunion for Bangladeshis in the UK. Guests praised the hospitality, sincerity, and flawless organization of BWSW and its volunteers.
At the conclusion, Mayor Peter Taylor expressed his appreciation, thanking the organizers for bringing people together through such a remarkable event and creating a memorable holiday experience for all.
Finally, President & Trustee Chair Shahedul Alam extended gratitude to all attendees, partners, and stakeholders whose support made the Mezban a grand success.
